Song of the Day: David Guetta feat. Taio Cruz and Ludacris “Little Bad Girl”

June 30, 2011 in Music, Song of the Day by SceneKC

What an interesting past few years it’s been for French producer David Guetta. His career has steadily been on the rise with two successful back to back albums, 2007′s “Pop Life” and 2009′s “One Love”. However Mr. Guetta has also inexplicably become the target of critics who claim that he has “sold out” Electronic Dance Music by catering to the mainstream. These critics even go as far as claiming he is ruining the genre. I am just not sure where all of this is coming from because he hasn’t really changed his style of music very much over the last few years, it’s been very consistent and recognizable. Perhaps it’s because of the impressive roster of Pop Music artist he has worked with including Rhianna, Will.I.Am, Kid Cudi, The Black Eyed Peas, Flor-I-Da, and Akon (to name a few)? Who knows and frankly, who cares! The fact is that “sell out” or not tracks like “Little Bad Girl” are just good songs. It’s an infectious and easy to dance to song and you better believe it will get some major dance floor rotation. Don’t take my word for it though have a listen and let me know what you think.

Song of the Day: Alex Gaudino feat. Kelly Rowland “What A Feeling”

June 13, 2011 in Music, Song of the Day by SceneKC

Today’s Song of the Day comes from Alessandro Gaudino an Italian DJ, whose music generally fits into the House Music category. For today’s song Gaudino has teamed up with former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland. Rowland found a new musical identity within the Dance Music genre after her pairing with David Guetta on the Grammy Award winning 2009 track “When Love Takes Over”. Fast forward to today and Rowland’s vocals sound even more at home with a four on the floor beat. Please take a listen and leave a comment if you like the track.

Best of 2009 – Part 4

January 9, 2010 in Music, Scene KC News! by SceneKC

I have a confession to make… I HATED David Guetta’s collaboration with Kelly Rowland upon my first listen in the Summer of 2009, I mean I REALLY hated it. But why did I have such a undeniably negative reaction to such an upbeat and danceable track that is sung so soulfully by Kelly Rowland? Who knew she had that much oomph in her voice? I had to check out to make sure Kelly hadn’t blown up to a Weather Girl like state to get that power. Seriously, I guess it’s because with all the crap that was going on in 2009, that sugary sweet of a song was just, kind of tone deaf to what was happening in the news. The song did however grow on me and by the end of 2009 I found myself singing along to the YEEAHAHs with the rest of the crowd. That’s what makes for a good song, it wins you over. Whats makes this a one of the best dance tracks of 2009 is that you shake your butt while you give in.
