Song of the Day: Ellie Goulding “Lights” (Bassnectar Remix)
August 5, 2011 in Music, Song of the Day by SceneKC
Today’s Song of the Day is a real treat, it’s like a musical Reece’s peanut butter cup and these two taste go oh so great together. The song “Lights” is the title track from English singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” album. The original version is an upbeat little dance number showcasing Goulding’s love for electronic music (check it out HERE). Now enter Bassnectar with an advanced/bootlegged remix of “Lights” which adds a much darker tone to the song but keeps Goulding’s vocal front and center. We have heard this type of sound from Bassnectar before with several of his other tracks most notably “Magical World” which is his remix of Nelle Furtado’s “Turn Out The Lights”. Here that same formula of delicate female vocals over dark synths and booming percussion is perfected. I cannot wait to hear this one tonight at Kanrocksas! While this might have had a bootleg start it has clearly been embraced by Goulding and is featured on Bassnectar’s new album “Divergent Spectrum”.
Check out the video and please leave a comment if you like the song and be on the lookout for it to be performed tonight! Wanna add it to your playlist? Click the iTunes and Amazon links below… Easy!
